Behind horizontal wood slats and sound-transparent materials there is an array of specially- shaped diffusion elements mixed with acoustical absorption panels. The new $37 million 20,000 square foot music center is slated to open in March and offers rehearsal and recording spaces for musicians and houses the organization's administrative offices. The space is designed to meet the diverse needs of local and touring musicians who, up until now, have lacked adequate, affordable rehearsal and recording space in New York City.
